Reading Strategies
1. Clarify: Whenever I come across a passage that I do not understand while reading I stop to clarify it. Often when I don’t understand a word I will look up the definition or ask someone what the word means. I also reread confusing passages until they make sense and ask myself questions that will help me understand what I am reading.
2. Decide whats important: When reading novels or text books I decide what is important. I look for the main idea and the key supporting details of the text and make notes as I read.
3. Make Connections: I always link what I read to my own experiences and other texts as I read. I also link what I am reading to things that I know about the world or to things I have learned in the past, for example I may be reading about something in English class that I can relate to something that I have learned in History class which will help me understand the text in a greater way.
