Divergent is a mysterious, romantic and action filled novel. The main character Beatrice Prior lives in a dystopian Chicago, that is made up of fractions, each dedicated to a particular virtue- Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful) and Erudite (the intelligent). Every year there is an appointed day in which all sixteen-year-olds must choose the fraction that they will stay in for the rest of their lives. Beatrice fights between abandoning her family and being who she really is. When the time comes she makes a decision that surprises everyone.
Beatrice goes through a very competitive intonation process in which will determine whether she belongs in her chosen fraction or not. During the process she struggles with determining who her true friends are and who to trust. Along the way she also falls in love with a very mysterious man. Beatrice soon realizes a conflict growing that could ruin her society. Tris soon realizes that a secret that she has kept might be able to save the ones she loves but revealing it could also destroy her.
This book has made me realize the importance of my choices and how they affect others and it has also shown me that sometimes making the right choice means making sacrifices.
